Llanganuco Lagoons, a stage of romanticism and natural beauty
Beautiful turquoise lagoons, famous in Peru and the world, located 84 kilometers northeast of Huaraz, and 25 km of Yungay, Huascaran National Park. This magnificent natural setting is in a narrow glacial valley between the Nevados Huascaran (6 768 m) and Huandoy (6.160 m peak south).
The tour starts at the checkpoint (Huascaran National Park entrance) where you do log your data and the corresponding payment for right of entry. The tour continues between huge walls and various species of high Andean flora. Queñual observe dense forests, alder, waterfalls and crystal clear waters, making it an earthly paradise, blessed by nature.
The first visit is made to the lagoon known as Chinancocha "Lady Lake", with length 1.450 m, 7.393 m wide and 28m deep and is surrounded by trees queñual, reeds and you can see the ducks swimming around you. This gap is the most popular and most visited by tourists. Local residents offer boating, horseback riding, plus the sale of some typical local dishes that will delight your palate.
The magic continued into the second lagoon, Laguna Orconcocha or "Laguna Macho", located at the end of the valley and is the smallest, its length is 910m, 368 meters wide by 7m deep, where you can appreciate the biodiversity of the flora and Wildlife peculiar to this region.
The melting of glaciers Huascaran Yanapaccha, Huandoy Pisco and form the stream that keeps the two ponds Llanganuco: Chinancocha and Orconcocha. The waters of these lakes run along the river Ranrahirca to finally unite their waters to the Rio Santa.
Gaps most splendid display their colors during the morning because the sun shines directly on them, why are advised to arrive early, leave Huaraz around 8am.
According to legend, the turquoise green waters and Orcococha Chinancocha, the two lakes that are LLanganuco, originate in the disconsolate tears of love of a princess and a soldier, who failed in their attempt to escape, to indulge freely in love The drunk, were stranded in the most inhospitable part of the Cordillera Blanca. How to get there?
You can go to the lakes comfortably through any tour operator in Huaraz, or use the local transportation: take a combi (small bus) to Huaraz to Yungay and then take another combi or taxi (at a cost of about 40 soles for 4 people) to move up the gaps. The Huascaran National Park entrance fee is 5 soles, if you leave the park the same day. Peruvians are free.
A recommended alternative is to upload a bike (by bus) descarpada by road to the end of the valley, where you have a spectacular view of the surrounding mountains and then descend in cycles to Yungay.
